Position: Nurse - Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Transportation/School Health Office Support
Location: Wachusett Regional School District
Pay: $32.50 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing skilled nursing care and medical support to students with identified health needs during school transportation and throughout the school day. The nurse will collaborate with families, school staff, transportation personnel, healthcare providers, and the District Health Services Team to ensure the student’s health and safety needs are appropriately addressed.
The position includes nursing coverage during transportation to and from school, implementation of individualized health and emergency care plans, medication administration as ordered, monitoring for changes in health status, and providing nursing support within the school setting in between transportation routes.

Student Transportation
- Provide nursing care and supervision during transportation between the student’s home and school/program placement.
- Monitor the student’s medical condition throughout transportation and respond appropriately to changes in condition.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of the student’s medical needs during transit.
- Carry and/or maintain access to prescribed emergency medications and medical supplies as outlined in the student’s health and emergency care plans.
- Administer emergency or routine medications as authorized by current medical orders and District procedures.
- Recognize signs and symptoms requiring intervention and initiate the student’s emergency response plan when necessary.
- Call 911 and implement emergency procedures when indicated.
- Communicate significant health concerns or changes in condition to the appropriate school nurse and/or District Health Services Team.
- Maintain confidentiality of student health information at all times.
- Complete required documentation related to nursing care, medication administration, incidents, and transportation-related medical concerns.
School-Based Nursing Support
- Provide nursing care to the assigned student during the school day as needed.
- Implement the student’s Individualized Health Care Plan (IHCP), Emergency Action Plan, medication orders, and other applicable health-related accommodations.
- Collaborate with the school nurse regarding the student’s ongoing health needs and plan of care.
- Provide or assist with medication administration in accordance with Massachusetts regulations, physician orders, parent/guardian authorization, and District policy.
- Monitor the student for changes in health status and communicate concerns promptly.
- Support the student’s safe participation in educational activities and school routines.
- Cover School Health Offices
Documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation.
- Document medication administration, nursing interventions, significant health events, and communication with families and school personnel.
- Follow District policies and procedures, Massachusetts Department of Public Health requirements, and applicable nursing standards.
- Maintain required nursing licensure and certifications.
- Maintain competency in any specialized care required by the assigned student.

School Support to be provided at the Wachusett Regional School District Schools
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with current BORN licensure in the state of Massachusetts.
Current certification in CPR/AED.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience working with children, especially special education students, and medically complex children.

WORK YEAR: 183 day work year, the basic basic work-day hours are in accordance with the specific start and end times of the school and/or the student’s transportation needs.
